Good Type is run by Becki. A designer and illustrator living in Melbourne, who just really likes making things.
I started with drawing and making cards for friends, that turned into prints, then a little online shop… and now I’m also messing around with clay (because why not).
Everything is created, printed and packaged in my studio, usually with a cup of tea on the go and my dog Manchego snoring in the corner.
Everything here is colourful and made to make people smile. I love connecting with creatives, so if you have any questions about my art practice or running a store, feel free to reach out!
Thanks for being here.
Fine art prints
I hand print and package every one of your orders from my Melbourne Studio, on 100% Cotton Fine Art paper - the ability to print from the studio means that I can keep art prints affordable and accessible to everyone.
Everything is checked and packaged by hand, I aim to get things out as quickly as possible. I’ll let you know personally, if there is any reason for your print being delayed.
My process
Most of my work starts in my sketchbook. I’ll scribble down ideas or quickly map out compositions before I pop them into Photoshop and re-draw the final work on my Wacom Cintiq.
I use a mix of custom brushes and textures, some I’ve made myself, others I’ve collected over time from places like True Grit Supply or Kyle T. Webster (many of his are now available through Adobe). Each element is drawn on its own layer so I can move things around, experiment with compositions, or pull from my growing library of illustrations to mix and match.
Before I worked digitally, I used to create everything by hand. I still love that tactile process, but digital illustration gives me the flexibility to push and refine ideas while still keeping that textured, handmade feel.
A lot of my work revolves around food, packaging, and still life scenes, themes that feel cosy and personal to me. I love cooking and entertaining, and I think that sense of warmth translates into the prints I create. They’re the kind of pieces I want in my own home, and I love that so many of you do too.
I’m also excited to explore more tangible versions of my work! Ceramics, products, and other ways of bringing these illustrations off the page and into everyday life.
So glad you enjoy my work, and you’ve read this far 😊 can’t wait to share more with you!
A little about my materials.
(Feel free to reach out if you want any advice)
Software: For creating my prints, I use a Wacom Cintiq 16" Creative Pen Display.
Software: Adobe Photoshop mainly, I do use Illustrator for some digital freelance work, and also figma for printed products used in my tangible prints.
Paper and printing: I have a Epson surecolour p600, for my art prints I use canson photographique 310gsm or an archival matte paper for smaller prints.
Packaging: I use backing boards from Bound to impress, packing sleeves I’m working through some cello bags, I will be moving to a more sustainable option once I’ve ran out.
Coloured pencils: Caran d'ache luminance, are just beautiful.
Pens: I use muji pens alot! Specifically the smooth gel pens, but my absolute favourite is a Stalogy Gel Ballpoint Pen. But I’ve used a bunch, highly recommend just playing around to find your favourite!
Inks: Liquitex Acrylic Inks are amaxing, I also typically use generic blank ink, usually Japanese.
Drawing paper: I love Arches for watercolours, but I have used a bunch in the past of more inexpensive options for practice. I would likely use Arches for any type of commission or final work.
